In an idyllic place, Kremlin chief Putin talks about the war against Ukraine. He also has a message for US President Trump hidden.
Russian President Vladimir Putin tries to blame Ukraine about a peace solution. Talks are always useful, Putin said at a meeting with the Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko on the North Russian monastery island of Walaam. However, they should not be overloaded with expectations and better run in hidden.
“If the leadership of Ukraine thinks that now is not the right time, but you have to wait, please, please, then we are ready to wait,” said the Kremlin boss, according to the state Russian news agency TASS. He referred to statements by Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj that meaningful conversations were actually only possible after a change of power in Moscow.
Selenskyj: If Putin wants to talk, I am ready
With three direct discussions in Istanbul since May, the pages have only been able to agree on the exchange of prisoners and the return of killed soldiers. Shortly after Putin’s appearance, Selenskyj wrote on Portal X, if Russia really wanted to speak, he was always ready for a meeting with the Kremlin boss.
Kremlin chief ignores Trump’s deadline
Putin’s statements can be understood in response to the threat of US President Donald Trump to impose high punitive tariffs against Russia and the buyers from his oil if the war is not ended. The deadline last mentioned by Trump was ten days. Putin did not react directly to this, but said this by Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow.
The Kremlin chief said that his war goals formulated in 2024 were still valid. For Ukraine, they amount to the assignment of large areas, disarmament and the establishment of a Mosauf -friendly government – in fact to a surrender.
Putin wants rights for Russian church in Ukraine
Putin again called for Walaam to fix the rights of the Russian Orthodox Church and the status of the Russian language in Ukraine. The security of Russia and Ukraine should be secured in the European framework, he said.
Lukaschko supported Putin’s perspective. Ukraine demands impossible, he said. Given the advance of Russian troops, Kyiv should come up to negotiate with Moscow. Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for almost three and a half years.
