Until the night, experts repaired around 20 meters of cable at the Düsseldorf-Duisburg junction. After a day, the traffic finally rolls again. Meanwhile, the investigation continues.
After the arson attack on the Düsseldorf-Duisburg railway line, the nationwide main line of the railway is released again for train traffic. After repairing the damaged infrastructure and test drives on the route, the blocking had been lifted since the early morning hours, a railway spokesman said. Fire rates deposited on the route had paralyzed the important north-south connection since Thursday.
The police assume sabotage, the state protection is determined. There are presumably left -wing extremists for the attack, as Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) said in Düsseldorf on Friday. A letter of confession was published on the left “Indymedia” platform. A “command of Angry Birds” claims the deed for itself. This is known to the authorities “as a left-wing extremist hands-on campaign”, said Interior Minister Reul. According to the police, the authenticity of the letter is still checked.
As a dpa reporter learned at the crime scene, unknown people had placed a ignition device in a cable tunnel on Thursday. A train driver saw smoke from the cable tunnel and raised alarm.
Second fire site just a few kilometers away
The second fire damage was discovered around two kilometers away when the route was committed on Friday. The police now assume that both fire sets were fired on Thursday.

The fires destroyed cables for controlling switches and signals. Fern and regional traffic was subsequently significantly disturbed. On Friday afternoon, the police ended the securing of evidence at the second stop. After that, the repair work could begin.
NRW Transport Minister Oliver Krischer (Greens) complained about “immense damage” and announced emphatic prosecution. The Duisburg -Düsseldorf route is one of the most used train connections in Germany with more than 620 trains every day – not counted freight trains.
