In Brazil, people in several cities have demonstrated the high tariffs imposed by Donald Trump against the country and set fire to the US president’s dolls. Anti-Trump protests took place on Friday (local time) in the capital Brasília and in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. On posters it was read “Brazil belongs to the Brazilians”. US flags and false dollar notes were also lit.

The demonstrators expressed their anger about Trump’s politically motivated decision to prove Brazilian exports with an inch of 50 percent. They also protested against sanctions that Washington imposed against the judge at the Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes.

Trump increases Brazil tariffs to 50 percent

Trump had signed a decree on Friday that increases the ten percent tariffs that already apply to the South American country to 50 percent on August 6th. The White House justified this with an allegedly “politically motivated persecution” of the ultra-right Brazilian ex-President Jair Bolsonaro.
