The paralyzed railway lines in North Rhine -Westphalia have just been released for train traffic. According to the railway, however, there is another incident with a suspected criminal background in Saxony-Anhalt.
The rail traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia flows again. Since Thursday, the nationwide central north-south axis of the Deutsche Bahn had been paralyzed in Düsseldorf after presumably intentionally caused cable fires.
After extensive repair work on five cables over a total length of around 100 meters until the night, the train released train traffic on the highly frequented route Duisburg-Düsseldorf. “Everything is going again as it should be,” said a spokeswoman for the German Press Agency in Düsseldorf.
Tens of thousands of travelers affected
As the company announced, hundreds of trains in long-distance and regional traffic were affected that drive through this section through the Ruhr area every day. “The effects of the arson attack have felt tens of thousands of travelers – commuters as well as holiday travelers, for example on their arrival to Düsseldorf Airport.”

Another alleged crime scene in Saxony-Anhalt
At the same time, the company reported another alleged arson attack. After the two fire sets in Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf on Thursday, Saxony-Anhalt is affected this time. A cable fire was also discovered there on Friday evening on a route at the height of the WEBAU district in Hohenmölsen, the Deutsche Bahn said.
“According to initial investigations, this cable fire is also based on arson.” It is a freight traffic route for coal transports.
At least in North Rhine -Westphalia, the police assume Sabotage, the state protection is determined. It is still unclear whether there is a connection between the incidents in the two federal states.
According to NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU), the authorities suspect that left-wing extremists are behind the arson attack in Düsseldorf. A letter of confession was published on the left “Indymedia” platform. A “command of Angry Birds” claims the deed for itself. According to Reul’s information, the group is known “as a left-wing extremist hands-on campaign”. The authenticity of the letter is still checked.
Location in NRW relaxes
In North Rhine -Westphalia, the rail travelers first breathe up: in the middle of the summer vacation you can start your trips as planned. At the train stations in Düsseldorf and Duisburg, everything went his usual gear in the morning, as a dpa reporter reported. “The rail replacement traffic is no longer necessary,” said the train.
