Hanover started and wants to provide help in concrete terms. Now another city wants to go along.

According to Hanover, Düsseldorf also wants to absorb children from the Gaza Strip and Israel, who are particularly in need of protection or traumatized. With regard to the announcement of the Lower Saxony capital, the Mayor of Düsseldorf said Stephan Keller (CDU): “We also want to take up this strong and deeply human gesture in Düsseldorf. If we have questions of attitude and humanity, we are together in Düsseldorf across party borders.”

The city of Hanover had announced on Thursday to record up to 20 children. Mayor Belit Onay (Greens) said that up to 20 inaugurty acceptance places were currently available. An expansion is conceivable, for example through guest or foster families. According to the mayor, other cities have also been interested in participation in similar programs.

In Düsseldorf, however, the scope of help is still unclear. “We want to determine the chances of realizing our project in the coming week,” says the statement distributed by the city administration. In addition to Keller, this was signed by Mayor Clara Gerlach (Greens) and Mayor candidate Fabian Zachel (SPD).

The first talks have already been held – among other things with the Jewish community and the district of Düsseldorf Muslims.
