The location in Gaza is terrible, people suffer hunger. But is there a famine?
According to Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul, there is now a famine in the Gaza strip. “We have been observing for some time that the blockade that Israel has practically applied for the Gaza Strip has led to a famine has led to people dying, suffering,” said the CDU politician in the “Interview of the Week” of Deutschlandfunk.
According to the broadcaster, the conversation was led on Friday on the return flight of WadePhul’s trip to Israel and the Palestinian areas.
Experts have not yet been speaking of famine
International experts in nutritional security have not yet seen the criteria for famine in Gaza. However, according to an up-to-date interim assessment of the IPC initiative for analyzing nutritional crises, there is a famine, i.e. the worst form of a nutritional crisis.
It formally requires an extreme lack of food, acute malnutrition and hunger -related deaths. According to the experts, the latest data indicates that the first two criteria have already been met – extreme lack of food practically in most parts of the gaza strip and acute malnutrition in the city of Gaza.

WadePhul requires access for UN and aid organizations
German security circles were said on Saturday, 50 to 100 percent of the relief goods that came to the Gaza Strip would be branched off by Hamas or other criminal organizations.
WadePhul explained that the United Nations with all its aid organizations, the international Red Cross as well as church and charitable organizations would have to get free access to the Gaza Strip again to help there. “It can start tomorrow.”
Eas off from the air are not enough
This week, more trucks with relief goods had already gained access to the Gaza Strip, recognized WadePhul. “It is not enough, but it has to get better every day now. We’ll stay tuned.”
The Bundeswehr has been throwing relief supplies out of the air over the Gaza Strip since Friday. “Our air drops can only be a small relief. We do it. We do everything that relieves,” said WadePhul. “But it has to happen on the country paths, and Israel has to enable that. And that is understood there.”
The Gaza War triggered the unprecedented massacre on October 7, 2023, in which Hamas terrorists and other Islamists killed around 1,200 people and dragged more than 250 more from Israel into the Gaza Strip.
Israel reacted to this with massive air raids and a soil offensive. According to the health authority controlled by the Hamas, more than 60,000 people were killed in the coastal area.
