The 42 -year -old independent historian, who was supported by the right -wing conservative opposition party PIS, had emerged from the runoff election in early June. The victory of the political newcomer Nawrocki over the Liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski was a serious political defeat for the pro -European government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The Trump fan and EU skeptic Nawrocki will try to bring about a change of course in Poland.
Nawrocki becomes the successor to Andrzej Duda, who has to leave after two terms. Traditionally, the President in Poland releases his notice of office in front of the National Assembly, which consists of both chambers of parliament.
