Where which Trump tariffs apply from tomorrow

US President Donald Trump threatens trading partners around the globe with his customs hammer. From August 7th it will be really expensive for many countries. Who is affected how much?

US President Donald Trump speaks of a “big day for America”: On Thursday, new tariffs for the EU, Japan and other US trade partners are to come into force worldwide.

Who Donald Trump wants to occupy with which tariffs in the future:

Customs of 15 percent on most EU products including cars: This is the agreement that Trump and EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen have achieved. According to Trump, the Europeans are also said to buy US energy for $ 750 billion (just under 650 billion euros) and make investments of $ 600 billion in the United States. If European companies do not invest as expected, Trump threatens 35 percent tariffs.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) is already afraid of 15 percent “considerable damage” for the German economy, and there is a risk of a migration from jobs to the USA.

The two countries have made similar agreements to the EU to avoid significantly higher tariffs: 15 percent inches are due on most products in the USA. According to Trump, Japan also wants to open its market for US cars and trucks as well as rice and has promised investments of $ 550 billion in the USA. South Korea therefore assured $ 350 billion in investments and wants to buy US liquid gas for $ 100 billion.

Against Brazil, Trump announced the highest customs surcharges: 50 percent. They came into force on Wednesday. A number of products such as aircraft and orange juice are excluded. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva speaks of “extortion”, because Trump wants to influence a decision by the Supreme Court in Brazil. The indictment accuses the Trump friend and former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro an attempted coup after his deselection in 2022.

25 percent inches should be due for US imports from India. Trump also threatens India with a “punishment” because the country continues to buy cheap russian oil and gas and weapons, regardless of the war of aggression against Ukraine. The threat of around 100 percent tariffs is in the room. Other Russian trading partners such as China and Brazil could also hit these so -called secondary sanctions.

Indonesia has accepted a 19 percent duty rate, Vietnam of 20 percent. According to Trump, Indonesia has also committed to buying 50 aircraft from the US manufacturer Boeing. In addition, it should pay $ 15 billion for US energy deliveries and another $ 4.5 billion for agricultural products.

For Canada, Trump wants to increase the tariffs from 25 to 35 percent. However, the new customs set only applies to products that are not covered by the North American free trade agreement USMCA. Trump referred to Canada’s inadequate cooperation in the containment of the drug smuggling to the USA. Most recently, he had also criticized that Canada is considering recognizing a Palestinian state.

Mexico, the third USMCA state, initially threatened Trump with an increase in the customs rate from the current 25 to 30 percent. After a conversation with the Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, however, the US President agreed to extend the deadline by 90 days. Trump makes Mexico decisive for the spread of opioid fentanyl in the United States.

China has not yet reached an agreement with the Trump government, both sides signaled the will on continued negotiations. Other states, on the other hand, have to expect significantly higher tariffs from Thursday. Syria is most affected with 41 percent, followed by Laos and Myanmar (40 percent each).
