Donald Trump flirted with a third term after his inauguration. But the US President apparently slowly gives up the dream and thinks about who could inherit him.
US President Donald Trump sees his vice JD Vance “most likely” as a future Republican presidential candidate and thus as a possible successor. “It is of course too early to talk about it, but he definitely does a great job and would probably be the favorite at the moment,” Trump said at a press conference in Washington on Tuesday.
Vance had already spoken about a possible presidential candidacy for the 2028 election, but said that he wanted to deny Trump. In presidential elections in the USA, the Republicans and the Democrats usually present a candidate duo for the presidency and that of the deputy head of state.
Trump also brought Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio a possible joint candidacy. “I think Marco is also someone who might be together with JD in some form,” he said. In general, “some incredible people” would be on stage with him. In addition to Vance and Rubio, other government members took part in the press conference, including Minister of Homeland Protection Kristi Noem and Minister of Justice Pam Bondi.
Trump-Merch fuels speculations about third term in office
The next presidential election in the USA will take place in 2028. So far, Trump has not completely excluded his own candidacy – he and again and again his environment with a possible third term. Speculations on possible attempts to improve the constitution were heated, among other things, by the fact that in his official online store T-shirts with the slogans “Trump 2028” and “Rewrite the Rules” (changes the rules).
According to the 22nd constitution, nobody may be elected to the US president more than twice. On Tuesday, Trump said in an interview with the CNBC broadcaster when asked if he would run again: “Probably not”.
