Trump plans Ukraine summit with Putin and Selenskyj

Is everything going very quickly now? According to a “New York Times” report, Donald Trump plans a summit with Vladimir Putin and Wolodymyr Selenskyj – maybe already next week.

According to a media report, US President Donald Trump wants to personally meet his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin next week. After that, a three -energy summit with the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj, the newspaper “New York Times” reported on Wednesday, citing two people familiar with the plans. The news agency dpa also confirms that Trump wanted to meet Putin shortly with Putin, which the US President informed of his project in a phone call.

Trump had disclosed his project in a phone call with European heads of state and government, in which Selenskyj, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and NATO general secretary Mark Rutte would have participated. The planned meeting should take place without European participation.

“The President is open to meet both President Putin and President Selenskyj,” said Karoline Leavitt’s spokeswoman for the White House, in Washington. Trump wanted the “brutal war” in Ukraine.

The Russian side had expressed the desire for a meeting with the US President, Leavitt said. However, it neither called a date nor a place for a possible encounter.

Summit from Trump: Property by Putin and Selenskyj still unclear

It was initially unclear whether Putin and Selenskyj agreed to the plans. There were no statements by the states mentioned in the evening. Diplomatic efforts and a deadline set by the USA preceded the advance: Steve Witkoff, the US specialist, had met Putin in Moscow.

Trump rated the conversation as successful and spoke of “big progress”. Selenskyj said there was apparently a greater willingness of Russia for a break. However, he warned that Russia should not “deceive the Ukraine and the USA with the details. The US government had set Russia a deadline until Friday to agree to a fire break in the war, which has been going on for more than three years. Otherwise there are further economic sanctions.
