According to media reports, the Israeli security cabinet should decide whether the entire Gaza Strip is conquered. The army leadership and opposition warn against it.
After almost two years of war in the Gaza Strip, Israel’s leadership faces the explosive decision as to whether the painted Palestinian area should be completely conquered. A corresponding plan, through which the security cabinet is to be located, according to Israeli media reports this evening, allegedly initially provides for the city of Gaza in the north of the coastal area. The army lead and the opposition warn of the Gaza Strip. According to media reports, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should still tend to step.
Before the consultations about an expansion of the war, the army inhabitants in the south of the city of Gaza asked to immediately go south to the humanitarian zone in al-Mawasi. In the city of Gaza, it is estimated to be around one million people – about half of the population of the coastal area. In Israeli radio reports it was said that the military also had to penetrate the refugee district in the central section to take the entire Gaza strip.
Opposition leader considers conquest as “very bad idea”
Opposition leader Jair Lapid described a complete conquest of the coastal area as “very bad idea”. Israel will pay a high price for the expansion of the fights, he said. Lapid referred to both the number of victims who would probably bring a military conquest of further areas as well as the costs of a crew.
According to radio reports, poor Zamir warned in a preliminary discussion with Netanyahu of a “trap” and a fatal danger to hostages and soldiers. According to Israeli assessment, there are currently 20 living hostages in the violence of the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas.
Israel’s army already controls around 75 percent of the area of the coastal area largely devastated by the war. From a military point of view, it would not be difficult for the armed forces to conquer the rest of the Gaza Strip, said Israeli security analysts of the US newspaper “Wall Street Journal”.
Occupation of the gaza strip harbors high risks
The actual challenge would therefore start a complete line -up afterwards. From then on, Israel would be responsible for the life of the entire population of the Gaza Strip, including their supply of food, medical services, education and sanitary facilities. In addition, Israel would have to maintain a considerable military presence within the Gaza Strip in order to ensure security in the middle of a largely hostile population,
Apart from the enormous costs that would cause such an undertaking, it is unclear whether a military line -up is completely smashed or even strengthen it, the newspaper quoted security analysts. The Hamas fighters who led the war in civil clothing and inhabited areas could not only experience further influx. A permanent stationing of Israeli troops would also improve the possibilities of Hamas to attack them with guerrilla tactics, it continued.
According to Israeli media, a security officer already pulled a parallel to the Vietnam War: “We head for visible eye for a Vietnam model.” In the end, it remains to be seen what the security cabinet, according to Israeli media reports at 6 p.m. local time (5 p.m. CEST) in the office of Prime Minister Netanyahu. According to the reports, Netanyahu could also be under pressure to compensate for Hamas, the release of the hostages as part of a ceasefire.
Israel’s army attacks again in Lebanon
Meanwhile, the Israeli army once again attacked the Hisbollah militia in Lebanon in northern neighboring country. This included various positions of the militia supported by Iran – including arms camps and rocket shot ramps as well as facilities for storing technical equipment, as the military announced in the evening. Lebanese media had previously reported on Israeli air raids in the south of the country.
A ceasefire between Israel and the Hisbollah in Lebanon actually applies since the end of November last year. Israel calls for a complete disarmament of the militia. The Israeli military therefore attacks the Shiite organization positions in various areas of the neighboring country almost daily – there is always dead and injured.
Hisbollah rejects schedule for disarmament
The Lebanese army was commissioned this week to develop a plan to disarm the Hisbollah. By the end of the year, all weapons in the country are to be put under state control. The Hisbollah has repeatedly emphasized that it does not want to get involved. Israel’s military must first stop his attacks and deduct its troops from the five remaining items in the South Libanon.
It is feared that the militia will not take off its weapons promptly and that the debate could lead instead in a domestic political crisis. Despite the weakening of the war with Israel, the Hisbollah is still a strong political force in Lebanon and still has many fighters under weapons.
