Dobrindt: We will maintain border controls

The black and red federal government had tightened control at German external borders when taking office. How long should that apply? The interior minister is now making an announcement.

Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has announced an extension of the border controls. “We will continue to maintain the border controls,” said Dobrindt in the “Table.Today”. There will be both controls and rejections beyond September, he said.

Germany had reinforced the previously sporadic controls at German external borders on May 8th on May 8th after taking office of the Black-Red Federal Government. This has led to massive criticism in some neighboring countries. Germany is part of the Schengen area, in which open limits are actually intended.

Deportations to Afghanistan and Syria

Further deportations are also currently being carried out. “We are working on organizing further deportation fees to Afghanistan and also to Syria,” said the Federal Minister of the Interior. This is “imperative” to ensure that – starting with criminals – people would be attributed to their home countries, which could not stay in Germany and should not stay.

In mid -July, the Federal Government deported 81 Afghan offenders to its country of origin with a charter machine. It was only the second flight of this kind after the takeover of the Islamist Taliban in August 2021. In the coalition agreement, the Union and SPD agreed to deport themselves to Syria in addition to Afghanistan. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have fled to Germany since the beginning of the civil war in 2011. Even after the fall of the long-time ruler Bashar al-Assad, the security situation has remained precarious.
