Pharmacists complain about failures in the system for e-recipes

Germany is more of a straggler when digitizing the healthcare system. And the e-recipe already introduced does not run smoothly, as pharmacists complain.

The pharmacists’ associations complain that the e-recipe system is more common or runs unstable. The electronic recipe of Deutsche Bahn is running out of the rank when it comes to unreliability, said the head of the Federal Association, Thomas Prize, the Editorial Network Germany (RND). “An unusual train is annoying, but an unable to access e-recipe can have significant consequences for people’s health.”

In the past two weeks alone, complete failures or considerable impairments in the e-recipe system or the telematics infrastructure behind it have occurred on five days, he said. “Tens of thousands of patients are affected every time.”

“This unreliability is unacceptable”

Furthermore, the price said that there is no alternative to digitize the healthcare system. “But this unreliability is not acceptable.” The responsible society Gematik must ensure that pharmacies and medical practices can work in a stable system. “The failure of the system must be significantly improved.” And in the event of failures, pharmacies need more freedom of action to still provide patients.

The e-recipe for prescription drugs has been mandatory since January 2024. The goal: more comfort and fewer ways to the doctor’s office. Hand signatures and paths are eliminated, follow -up recipes can be issued without a renewed patient visit. If you want, you can also get the recipe as a paper expression.
