Seam of peace in the Gaza Strip or does the humanitarian location get worse? Israel has decided what should happen to the coastal strip. An overview.
Even before the security cabinet coordinated, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his country would fully take the Gaza Strip. After the speculation, there is now certainty: Israel’s security cabinet voted with a majority to end the war in the Gaza Strip. Not the entire coastal strip should be taken for this, but only Gaza City. What’s next? And what do other countries say about the plans?
How does Israel imagine peace in Gaza?
Since the beginning of the bloody conflict in the coastal strip, Israel has repeatedly emphasized that they want to wipe out Hamas. There is no longer any mention of this now. Instead, Natanjahu’s government plans:
- The disarmament of Hamas,
- The return of all hostages – dead and alive – to Israel,
- The demilitarization of the Gaza Strip
- Israeli security controls in Gaza
- And the establishment of a civil administration that is not subject to Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.
In order for Hamas to be considered defeated, Israel initially wants to take Gaza City. In an interview with the US broadcaster Fox News shortly before the meeting of the security cabinet, Netanyahu said that he wanted to hand over the Gaza Strip to “Arabic forces”.
What does that mean for the people in Gaza?
They should continue to be provided with humanitarian aids. According to the plan, the goods are to be delivered outside the battle areas.
How is the mood in Israel?
The opposition is dissatisfied with the decision. Israel’s opposition leader Jair Lapid criticized the planned conquest of Gaza City as a “catastrophe” with which Netanyahu accepts the death of other Israeli hostages and soldiers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, contrary to the objections of the army leadership from his right-wing extremist coalition partners Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, continued to explain. The two ultra -right ministers are advocates of the idea of fully taking the Gaza Strip and selling the Palestinians living there.
Relatives of Israeli hostages have described the expansion of the war in the Gaza Strip decided by the security cabinet as the “death sentence” for the still held hostages. The decision of the political leadership is an official statement to give the hostages and leads them-and also Israeli soldiers-into a “colossal disaster”, explained the forum of the hostage members.
Even in protests in front of Netanyahus in Jerusalem, demonstrators expressed concern that an expansion of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip would further increase the danger to life for the still living hostages. “The only way to bring the hostage home is to end the war and end the suffering of the hostages and all those who experience this terrible conflict-including the residents of Gazas, soldiers, families and all of us,” said the demonstrator Sharon Kangasa-Cohen.
According to Israeli assessment, there are still 50 hostages in Gaza, 20 of whom are said to be alive.
How does the world react to Israel’s decision?
Not particularly positive: UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk called for an “immediate” stop of the expansion of the army. “The Israeli government’s plan for a complete military takeover” of the Palestinian area “in contradiction to the judgment of the International Court of Justice, according to which Israel has to end his crew as soon as possible,” said Türk.
The British Prime Minister Keir Strander also disapproved of the decision to expand the military operation and asked Israel to “immediately rethink this decision.” The procedure will not end the conflict and only lead to further bloodshed.
Australia warned that military control over the Gaza Strip by Israel would make the humanitarian disaster in Gaza worse. The permanent forced relocation is a violation of international law. “A two-state solution is the only way to a permanent peace-a Palestinian state and the state of Israel, which within international borders exist on peace and security,” emphasized Foreign Minister Penny Wong. Unlike allies such as Great Britain or Canada, Australia has not yet recognized a Palestinian state.
There was no reaction to Israel’s plans from Germany.
