Was it with the state rush? Reactions to Germany’s Israel sanctions

Germany imposed sanctions against Israel for the first time because of the Gaza War. The coalition agrees. Some politicians are demanding more – others go too far.
The criticism from Germany of Israel’s approach in the Gaza Strip had recently become louder. Chancellor also addressed warning words to Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his government. But only with the planned takeover of Gaza city does the Berlin draw serious consequences. For the time being, Israel should no longer receive weapons that it could use in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, Chancellor Friedrich Merz makes it clear that Israel has the right to defend themselves against Hamas and that all hostages would have to be released as soon as possible.
The SPD applauds the Chancellor and his decision and – together with the Greens – demands even more: Germany should support sanctions against certain ministers of the Israeli government. It is about right -wing extremist cabinet members who want to call up violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and also want to build Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip.
Green boss Franziska Brantner describes the expansion of the Gaza War, which is decided by the Israeli security cabinet, as a disaster-for the civilian population in Gaza and also for the hostages that are still held by the terrorist organization Hamas. “It now needs serious pressure for the end of the war and the humanitarian disaster, the release of hostages and a political perspective. Germany must no longer prevent consistent European action in this sense, but must be at the top.”
Die Linke also welcomes the decision of the Merz government, but demands further steps, including the recognition of a Palestinian state.
Don’t you want to miss anything from the star?
Personally, competent and entertaining: Editor -in -chief Gregor Peter Schmitz sends you the most important content from the star-Credaction and arranges what Germany talks about.
CDU foreign politician Norbert Röttgen says the “Rheinische Post”, the “reaction is correct and unfortunately became inevitable due to the recent decisions of the Israeli government”. It is no longer clearly understandable which war goals of Israel follow with the renewed expansion of the offensive. “As a occupying power, Israel is responsible for the humanitarian care of the population. The Israeli government continues to meet this responsibility.”
Jewish representatives annoyed by Israel sanctions
Others think that the Federal Government shoots its decision beyond the goal. The Junge Union criticizes on Instagram: “State Räson ticked off? A break with the principles of Union policy.” The chairman of the youth association and CDU member of the Bundestag Johannes Winkel writes on the platform X: “As of today, Israel does the dirty work for us, only without German weapons.”
The member of the Bundestag Stephan Pilsinger (CSU) notes in a contribution on the platform X that “Israel’s security towards his numerous dangerous enemies” is not improved by the export stop. According to media reports, his party was neither involved in the decision nor informed about it and was surprised accordingly.
The Central Council of Jews is also disappointed. “This change of course runs all the expressions of solidarity and promises that the Federal Chancellor has represented since taking office,” said Central Council President Josef Schuster in Berlin. The association accuses the Chancellor of taking Israel the opportunity to take self -defense and calls for the partial stop of the arms deliveries to withdraw immediately. Israel is attacked by enemies daily and shot at with rockets. Germany must increase the pressure on the terrorist organization Hamas.
The German-Israeli Society (Dig) comments similarly critically. She speaks of a “point victory of the Hamas in the global propaganda war” and warns “of German snootiness”: “If Israel should reciprocate to Germany when delivering armaments, it looks bad for the future of German air security.”
The DIG apparently alludes to the order of the Israeli rocket defense system Arrow 3. Israel and Germany had concluded a contract in September 2023. The system for defending long -haul missiles should originally be used in Germany until the end of 2025. The Federal Government put the value of the armaments business at 3.6 billion euros.
Dozens of hostages are still in the Gaza Strip
The Dig admits that she also does not know “what is now the right procedure in the Gaza Strip”. This is also “politically and militarily controversial in Israel”. However, she welcomes the fact that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that a “annexation of the Gaza strip required by right -wing extremist cabinet members is not sought”. The federal government should take this into account from the Dig’s point of view.
The fact is that the radical Islamic Hamas still has 50 hostages in their violence, emphasizes Dig. She still controls “what is happening in the Gaza Strip or not. It still steals parts of humanitarian aid to humans. She is pushing her opponents. She is still militarily capable of acting.”
