Both the allies in Europe and with important intermediaries in the region, an expansion of military operation in the sealed coastal strip are expanded. On Sunday, the UN Security Council wants to deal with the matter in an urgency meeting. UN Secretary General António Guterres warned of a “dangerous escalation”.
New offensive could violate humanitarian international law
Germany, Great Britain, Italy, New Zealand and Australia rejected the Israeli plans to conquer the city of Gaza. The offensive would exacerbate the humanitarian situation, put the life of hostages at risk and could lead to the massive displacement of civilians, it said in a joint statement by the Foreign Minister of the five countries. In addition, the plan could be a violation of humanitarian international law.
The partners called the international community to strive for permanent ceasefire and auxiliary deliveries for the needy population in the Gaza Strip. They demanded the immediate release of the hostages from Islamist Hamas.
Two-state solution only way to peace
The only way to a permanent peace between Israelis and Palestinians is a two-state solution, the joint statement said. For this, however, Hamas must be completely disarmed and excluded from any kind of government responsibility. Rather, the Palestinian Authority (PA) should play a central role in a future government in the Gaza Strip. However, Israel rejects this.
At the suggestion of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli security cabinet had recently approved an expansion of military operation in the Gaza Strip and the intake of the city of Gaza. Accordingly, five principles were decided to end the war in the Gaza Strip: the disarmament of Islamist Hamas, the return of all hostages, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli security control of the coastal area nor the establishment of a civil administration, which should not be subject to the terrorist organization Hamas or the Palestinian autonomy (PA).
Germany no longer delivers armaments to Israel
Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) then announced that for the time being, no exports of armaments were approved that could be used in the Gaza War.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Council President António Costa asked the Israeli government to rethink its decision. “Netanyahu’s government loses Europe – completely,” the US news portal Axios quoted Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp. “We are behind Israel, but not behind the policy of the Israeli government.”

The planned offensive represents a dangerous escalation and threatens to further tighten the humanitarian crisis in the sealed coastal strip, it was said in a statement by the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, you undermine the efforts to take a permanent ceasefire. In the indirect negotiations between Israel and Islamist Hamas, Qatar is an important mediator.
The government of the United Arab Emirates called for de -escalating measures and warned of the spread of violence, tensions and uncertainty in the entire region.
