Israel’s planned expansion of the war also met with massive criticism in its own country. The UN Security Council meets the urgency meeting. Meanwhile, Berlin’s armor -bard is causing trouble.
Israel’s planned conquest of the city of Gaza also ensures massive protests in its own country. Tens of thousands of people in Tel Aviv and other cities called for a deal to release the hostages captured in the Gaza Strip. While the UN Security Council takes place today at an urgency meeting with Israel’s war plans, according to a media report, the agents of Qatar and the USA are working on a new proposal for a comprehensive agreement on the end of the war.
It should be presented to the warring parties within the next two weeks, quoted the US news page “Axios” informed sources. The US specialist Steve Witkoff met in Ibiza in Spanish with the Qatarian Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani. The Israeli news portal “Ynet”, citing sources from the environment of the Islamist Hamas, also reported that intensive contacts with Israel – conveyed by the United States, Egypt and Qatar – with the aim of preventing the Gaza strip.
New advance to end the war
The Israeli security cabinet under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided on Friday that the military should take the city of Gaza in the north of the sealed coastal strip. However, it was not said when the city is conquered exactly. As a result, “Axios” quoted a rank -high Israeli civil servant to achieve a diplomatic solution. Previous efforts for a preliminary ceasefire and the release of hostages were unsuccessful.
The plan decided by the Israeli security cabinet had triggered criticism worldwide. UN Secretary General António Guterres warned of a “dangerous escalation”. Germany, Great Britain, Italy, New Zealand and Australia criticized the plans to conquer the city of Gaza. The offensive would exacerbate the humanitarian situation, put the life of hostages at risk and could lead to the massive displacement of civilians, it said in a joint statement by the Foreign Minister of the five countries.
Dispute in the Union for armamentsemargo
Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) announced that for the time being, no exports of armaments were approved that could be used in the Gaza War. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then accused Germany of rewarding Hamas with the decision. His office said that he expressed his disappointment in a conversation with Merz.
Chancellor Minister Thorsten Frei (CDU) also rejected allegations from the ranks of the Union that the Federal Government executed a risky change of course in its Israel policy with the decision. “There must be no doubt that the basic lines of German Israel policy remain unchanged,” said Frei of the German Press Agency. “Germany continues to support Israel with everything that is necessary to defend its existence and security.”
For today, a video count of the foreign politicians of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group is planned. The AG on the outside will discuss the current foreign policy development, it was said from parliamentary group circles. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on the meeting. Accordingly, the Federal Chancellor’s foreign policy consultant, Günter Sautter, is also to be switched on.
Mass protests in Israel against war expansion
For the mass protests in Israel, the forum of the hostage members called for a comprehensive agreement to terminate the war. The relatives fear that taking the city of Gaza would mean the death sentence for their loved ones. According to Israeli assessment, there are still 20 living hostages in the violence of Hamas. Before the military headquarters in Tel Aviv, speakers asked the soldiers to participate in the expansion of the war, according to the “Times of Israel”. They also called Israel’s opposition as well as representatives from business, unions and science to paralyze the country.
The city of Gaza is the largest population center in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians live there. It is believed that there are also some of the Israeli hostages. Israel’s leadership has not stated when the military use to take the city should begin. Military analysts told the “Wall Street Journal” that the assignment could drag on for weeks or months.
Opportunity for new negotiations?
Israel apparently hopes that the increased military pressure makes Hamas to return to the negotiating table on its own conditions, said analysts of the US newspaper. The use can be suspended at any time. However, there are doubts as to whether the threat of a line -up is sufficient to make a breakthrough in the indirect negotiations. “The gap between Israel and Hamas in relation to the termination of the war is enormous, so it is probably pointless to speak of a comprehensive agreement at this point,” cited “Axios” an Israeli civil servant.
According to the Netanyahu office, Israel’s security cabinet had decided five principles to end the war. This included the military control of the coastal area by Israel, the complete disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip. An alternative civil government should then be built there.
The trigger of the Gaza War was the attack by Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist organizations to Israel on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 were delayed to Gaza as hostages. Since then, according to the health authority in Gaza controlled by the Hamas, more than 61,000 people have been killed. The barely verifiable number does not differentiate between civilians and fighters.
