Rising cash contributions, long waiting times: Many citizens think that it could go better in the health system.
According to a survey, more and more people are dissatisfied with the German health system. This is the result of a representative survey by the Forsa opinion research institute on behalf of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). Almost every second (47 percent) stated in July to be less satisfied or dissatisfied. 40 percent were satisfied, 12 percent completely or very satisfied.
The numbers were still much more positive in January. At that time, 30 percent responded to the same question, they were less or not satisfied. “More and more people have the feeling that they no longer get an appropriate equivalent for increasing contributions, for example if they have to wait a long time for doctor’s appointments,” commented the CEO of the TK, Jens Baas. The dissatisfaction with the system has almost quintupled since 2021.
The health insurance company calls for an immediate program to prevent the contribution rise in the contribution next year without cuts in performance. Savarfares are available, for example, in the costs of medication. So politics could gain time for a fundamental reform. For 2026, health insurance companies are currently expecting a deficit of up to eight billion euros.
