Before the meeting of Trump and Putin, the federal government emphasizes: Peace in the Ukraine War is only possible with the integration of Ukraine.
The Federal Government emphasized the importance of participation in Ukraine in every peace solution before the planned meeting of US President Donald Trump and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. At the same time, this could “be a very, very important moment for the further course of this terrible war,” said deputy government spokesman Steffen Meyer in Berlin.
On Friday, Trump and Putin in the US state of Alaska want to negotiate a possible peace solution in the Russian attack war, which has been lasting for around three and a half years. Trump represents the meeting as an attempt to get closer to the end of the fights. In this context, he spoke of a possible exchange of territory between Ukraine and Russia.
Meyer referred to the words of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who explained in the ARD, relying on the Ukrainians to be involved. The spokesman said: “Because if the goal is to really achieve a sustainable and just peace, then this is only conceivable with Ukraine. It is completely impossible to achieve this goal across the heads of the Ukrainians.”
He did not respond to any further details about the German position. There is a process “where every sentence and every word, every public word, change things, may also change or endanger them negatively”.
