Trump and Putin meet in Alaska on Friday. Before that, there should be preparation of the US president with the Europeans.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) plans to advise US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj and European heads of government on the Ukraine War. A video conference is planned, said a government spokesman for the German Press Agency. Trump wants to negotiate in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin on an end to the war in Ukraine.

Before the digital consultations with Trump and US Vice President JD Vance, a virtual meeting of Merz is planned with the heads of state and government from France, Great Britain, Italy, Poland and Finland, in which EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte and Selenskyj should also take part.

Among other things, it should be about further options for action to create pressure on Russia, a statement by government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said. “In addition, the preparation of possible peace negotiations and the associated questions about territorial claims and collateral should be discussed.”

Ukraine participate in peace solution

Ukraine strictly rejects territories. Russia has been a bitter attack war against Ukraine for more than three years. The Federal Government emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s participation in every peace solution. At the same time, this could “be a very, very important moment for the further course of this terrible war,” said deputy government spokesman Steffen Meyer in Berlin.

At statements by Chancellor Merz, who explained in the ARD, he referred to the fact that the Ukrainians would be involved. The spokesman said: “Because if the goal is to really achieve a sustainable and just peace, then this is only conceivable with Ukraine. It is completely impossible to achieve this goal across the heads of the Ukrainians.”

Poland had also warned the participation of neighboring Ukraine in every peace solution before the planned meeting of Trump and Kreml boss Putin.
