Lithuania wants to train citizens in dealing with drones

Drones are indispensable from everyday life and are also among the most effective weapons. Lithuania reacts to this – and wants to train civilians in dealing with the unmanned aircraft.

Lithuania wants to start a new training program for the construction and operation of drones for the general public and school children in autumn. According to the Department of Defense in Vilnius, three drone training centers in the Baltic EU and NATO country are to be opened in September in September, the number of which will increase at nine centers in the coming years. “We are planning that 15,500 adults and 7,000 children’s skills will acquire drone control by 2028,” Dovin Minister Dovile Sakaliene was quoted in a message.

Lithuania has 2.8 million inhabitants. According to the information, the program content is to be tailored to different age groups. They therefore aim to strengthen the competencies of the population in the field of drone control and technology and to expand them in civilian resistance. For this purpose, more than 3.3 million euros should be invested in the project carried out jointly by the Ministry of Defense and Education.

Drones as part of the defense strategy

Drones play a central role in modern warfare. Ukraine is increasingly relating to drones in its defensive fight against the Russian armed forces, which in turn use the unmanned aircraft at the front. Lithuania also wants to strengthen its own armaments industry and the defense skills of his army with the development and manufacture of drones. The Ministry of Defense had previously offered courses in which participants were trained in theory and practice in dealing with drones.
