With the video count of Europeans with Trump in front of his Alaska summit with Putin there is a surprise guest in Berlin. Do Merz & Co. achieve that they are not faced with accomplished facts?

Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) sends a special sign of solidarity with Ukraine to his Alaska summit with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. The only guest of Merz will be the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj in the afternoon personally at the Chancellery in Berlin in the virtual consultations with Trump and his vice JD Vance. All other participants are switched on by video.

Merz wants to receive Selenskyj in the Berlin government center around noon. A short lunch is then planned. Around 4 p.m., the Chancellor and Selenskyj together wanted to submit public statements to the advisors with Trump from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Preparations of Europeans with Selenskyj

For 2 p.m., Merz initially invited close European allies of Ukraine to a preliminary discussion of the follow -up sentences with Trump by virtual switching conference. The heads of state and government from France, Great Britain, Italy, Poland and Finland, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU Council President António Costa, NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte and Selenskyj.

The switching was initiated with Merz European State and Prime Minister. The aim is to find a common line with Trump before he hits Alaska Kreml boss Vladimir Putin on Friday. Following the consultations in Trump, the Federal Chancellor wants to discuss the results in the so -called coalition of the willing, under the leadership of Germany, France and Great Britain.

What do the Europeans want to achieve?

The Europeans and Selenskyj fear that Trump and Putin in Alaska could agree on territories from Ukraine to Russia that Kiev strictly rejects. You should want to make a promise from Trump that he does not make a deal with Putin over the heads of the Ukrainians and the Europeans. But will he go into it? And even if: the US president sticks to it – and if so, how long?

The German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius had said that the talks should be about further options for action to create pressure on Moscow. In addition, there should be talk about the preparation of possible peace negotiations and the associated questions about area claims and collateral. The British Prime Minister Keir Strander again called for security guarantees for Ukraine.

What Selenskyj excludes

The Ukrainian President again excluded any decisions on Ukraine at the Alaska summit before the video selections. “You can’t decide on Ukraine without us,” he told the RBK-Ukraine news agency in Kiev. He hoped that Trump was aware of this. At the same time, Selenskyj was convinced that there would be a three -way meeting between Trump, Putin and him to end the war.

Selenskyj also emphasized that Ukraine did not want to and could do without its areas in the east. Donbass would only serve as a “springboard” for a new war at a later point in time, he warned – just as the Crimea served as a jumping board for Moscow’s attacks against South Ukraine. In a task of the Ukrainian positions in Donbass, Putin’s troops could later advance towards Kharkiw, Saporischschja and Dnipropetrovsk.

Foreign Minister WadePhul: Violence must not shift any limits

The German Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul (CDU) had demolished the German course for talking to Trump on Monday after a switching conference with his EU colleagues -and gave speculation about the Ukraine area abandonation for peace with Russia. “Violence must not postpone any limits,” he wrote on X. Germany supported Trump’s goal of ending the Russian attack war. The result must be a fair and permanent peace.

In the ZDF “today journal” WadePhul also said that Ukraine knew that negotiations with Russia would be difficult. Kyiv will “possibly also do without”. “But that should be decided later.”

What goal does Trump have when talking to Putin?

Trump, on Friday in the northernmost US state of Alaska in the city of Anchorage, represents the meeting with Putin as an attempt to get closer to one end of the Russian war war that has been going on for around three and a half years. In this context, he spoke of a possible exchange of territory between Ukraine and Russia. On Monday, Trump also assured: “I will not do a deal” – this is not his job. He would still like to see a ceasefire, he added.

The White House confirmed that a one -on -one interview between the two presidents was planned on Friday. Selenskyj has not yet been invited to Alaska. Trump announced that he would inform the Ukrainian president and European heads of state and government immediately after the summit about the conversation with Putin. And Trump promised a meeting of Selenskyj and Putin.

Can Europeans hope for open ears?

Trump repeatedly emphasizes that the United States does not want to pay for the Ukrainian defense. So far, the US President does not want to make commitments to security guarantees in favor of Ukraine after a possible ceasefire or even a peace conclusion. Trump should also be dependent on Europeans both for the financing of the future defense against Ukraine against Russia as well as for securing a possible ceasefire or peace. This could help to not completely close their claims.

Orban: Selenskyj has already lost war against Russia

A cross -shot on the consultations of Europeans with Trump came from the right -wing populist Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. With regard to the planned meeting of Trump and Putin, he said: “He (the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj) lost this war.” He added: “We talk about it here, as if it were a war situation with an open outcome.” That is wrong. “The Ukrainians lost this war, Russia won the war.”

The day before, Hungary had refused to participate in a joint statement by the other 26 EU countries, in which Trump’s efforts are welcomed to Ukraine for the end of the Russian war of aggression.
