There has been talk of a Russian front breakthrough at the eastern Ukrainian cities of Pokrowsk and Dobropillja for several days. With the laying of reserves, Kyiv claims to have stabilized the situation.
According to its own information, the Ukrainian army has stabilized the difficult situation on the front section at Dobropillja and Pokrowsk in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. The first corps of the National Guard and neighboring and subordinate units had added significant losses to the enemy, the news agency Interfax-Ukraine quoted the spokesman for the General Staff, Andrij Kowaljow. Several prisoners were also made. “The situation stabilizes,” said Kowaljow.
Previously, Russian units, according to military observers, had pushed more than ten kilometers towards Dobropillja northeast of Pokrowsk. In media reports, there was talk of a front breakthrough. The Ukrainian army leadership then moved reserves to the area, including the National Guard Corps “Asow”. Ukrainian units in the cities of Pokrowsk and Myrnohrad are acutely threatened by an enclosure by Russian troops.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for more than three years. Also in February 2024 there were units of the then III. Sturmbrigade “Asow” was moved to the city of Awdijiwka to prevent Russian conquest of the industrial center. The city fell a few days later.
