The summit of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin starts with a handshake on the roller field, he ends with a handshake. See the pictures of the meeting here.
US President Donald Trump and Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin came together in Alaska for their most excited summit for the Ukraine War. After a photo on a small stage, both surprisingly climbed into Trump’s car and drove together to the conference location. There they first sat together with their delegations at a reception in front of press representatives. They did not answer any questions from the reporter to a possible ceasefire. The heads of state sat in front of a blue wall with the inscription “Pursuing Peace” (striving for peace). ((Current information about the Trump Putin summit can be found in our newsblog.)
The actual summit began a short time later. In addition to Trump, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and the special envoy Steve Witkoff took part in the first round of talks. Putin was flanked by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrow and Kremlin consultant Juri Uschakow.
After less than three hours of conversation, Trump and Putin performed at a press conference. They hardly commented on the announced main topic Ukrainklieg. There was no question of a possible ceasefire at a short press appearance in Anchorage. Putin spoke of agreements that could be the starting point for a solution to the conflict. He did not give details. However, the conflict was one of the central themes of the summit, he said. Trump said that the war had to be ended. Putin wanted this as well as he, he said. He announced that he would call the NATO partners and the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj.
