Again violence in protests in Serbia

The third night in a row is violent in demonstrations against the government of President Vucic, which is criticized as corrupt. Kill containers burn in the streets of Belgrade.

In protests against President Aleksandar Vucic’s government, violent riots have occurred in the third day in a row. Serbian media from the capital Belgrade reported on fire stuck on fire as well as fireworks and other objects that were thrown against police officers. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Saturday night that six police officers were injured and 38 demonstrators were arrested.

There were also rallies against the government in other Serbian cities. Many people in Serbia have been demonstrating almost every day for more than nine months. The protests were triggered by the collapse of a newly renovated station vordach in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024. 16 people were killed. Independent experts and opposition figures blam and corruption under the Vucic government for the tragedy.

The protests had been largely non -violent by last Wednesday. The reasons for the latest escalation attribute independent media and protest organizers to provocateurs from the VUCIC party SNS. With the support of the police and the secret services, these would repeatedly start violent incidents or attack peaceful demonstrators.
