Selenskyj: Peace must be permanent

In Washington, the Ukrainian President talks to US President Trump about ways to terminate the Ukraine War. Shortly before, he emphasized again what is important to him.

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj warned shortly before a meeting with US President Donald Trump about semi-silk agreements on the end of the war in his country. Peace must be permanent, he wrote on the platform X. “Like years ago, when Ukraine was forced to give up the Crimea and part of our East – part of the Donbass – and (Kremlin chief Vladimir) Putin simply used this as a springboard for a new attack.” Selenskyj also pointed out that the “security guarantees” that Ukraine received in 1994 would not have worked.

The Crimea should not have been given up at the time, emphasized Selenskyj – “just as little as the Ukrainians gave up after 2022 Kiev, Odessa or Charkiw”. Russia must end this war that it started. “And I hope that our shared strength with America and our European friends will force Russia into a real peace,” wrote Selenskyj, who claims to be in Washington. A meeting with US President Trump is planned there today, in which European allies will also take part.
