Household: Free: Coalition agreement does not provide for any tax increase

Several Union politicians have rejected a push of Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) on possible tax increases for top earners and wealthy. The coalition agreement does not provide for any tax increases, but correctly the goal of tax cuts, said Chancellor Minister Thorsten Frei (CDU) of the “Rheinische Post”. Criticism also from the CSU

Union faction leader Jens Spahn also rejected tax increases in the “Focus”. “As a faction, we are currently going through every budget and check where savings can still be made. This is not the time to even think about tax increases.” The coalition must make do with the existing means. “It is very central that we consolidate and reduce social security contributions,” said Spahn.

CSU general secretary Martin Huber said the “picture” that tax increases were not feasible with the CSU. The parliamentary managing director of the Union faction, Steffen Bilger, also rejected tax increases. “Germany is a high tax country. In the OECD comparison, we have the second highest tax and social security contributions,” he told the “picture”. In view of these circumstances, the debate is out of place.

Klingbeil: “No option is taken from the table”

Klingbeil had made it clear in the “ZDF Berlin directly summer interview” that he does not exclude higher taxes for top earners and the wealthy to remove the billions in gaps in the upcoming households. “There is no option from the table,” said the SPD chairman on Sunday.

An overall package is necessary to fill a gap of 30 billion euros in the 2027 budget. To the announcement of CSU boss Markus Söder that there will be no higher taxes, the finance minister said: “Mr. Söder, too, has now contributed to some plans that are important to him that a gap in the household is growing.” Now it is a matter of collegially sit down at a table and compensate for the respective suggestions in order to reduce this gap.
