Tax increases? Union rejects Klingbeil’s advance Rigoros
Tax increases are not a taboo subject for the Social Democratic Finance Minister Klingbeil. He refers to billions in the household. But the Union doesn’t participate.
Several Union politicians have rejected a push of Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) on possible tax increases for top earners and wealthy. The coalition agreement does not provide for any tax increases, but correctly the goal of tax cuts, said Chancellor Minister Thorsten Frei (CDU) of the “Rheinische Post”.

The coalition must make do with the existing means. “It is very central that we consolidate and reduce social security contributions,” said Spahn.
CSU general secretary Martin Huber said the “picture” that tax increases were not feasible with the CSU. The parliamentary managing director of the Union faction, Steffen Bilger, also rejected tax increases. “Germany is a high tax country. In the OECD comparison, we have the second highest tax and social security contributions,” he told the “picture”. In view of these circumstances, the debate is out of place.
