A grossly negligent Bundestag president. The situation in the morning

Julia Klöckner’s no-go statement, doubts about Putin’s will to peace, a survey on the social media ban and a lost son of the Norwegian royal family. That is important today.
Good morning, dear readers,
Even before Julia Klöckner dealt with the second highest office in the state, there was doubt as to whether she was the right one for this role. After all, the CDU politician in the previous legislature, at that time still in the opposition, was not exactly noticed with her non-partisan being, but rather to successfully drive the government in sharp tones.
Since taking office as President of the Bundestag, the former wine queen has already attracted some attention, and not only because recently it became known that she and the TV presenter Jörg Pilawa are a couple. There was her rather unfortunate figure in the management of the failed chancellor election in the first round and her criticism of an allegedly exaggerated political commitment of the churches. The Greens also accused her of acting in the mask affair.
Julia Klöckner would have to see an important difference
But you can also turn it positively, it sets its own accents. In the Bundestag sessions, she draws attention to herself with thorough announcements. And her decision, to Christopher Street Day, other than her predecessor, no more rainbow flags, you don’t have to understand as a scandal-after all, it will be in May anyway, International day against gay and trans hostility.
Now, however, Klöckner has actually made a serious mistake, of which one can only hope that he happened out of ignorance and not out of conviction. Her appearance at a CDU summer festival in Koblenz already caused criticism, as it was on the company premises of the entrepreneur Frank Gotthardt, a large donor from the right -wing populist online portal “Nius”. In her speech, according to two journalists, she put the “taz” and “nius” the same, these are “not unlike” in the methods.
This is obvious nonsense. While the links to be located “taz“The claim pursued to keep journalistic claims high, the portal of the former” picture “editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt repeatedly draws attention to itself with campaigns and distorting representations. The portal deliberately exceeds limits and use methods of disinformation, said political scientist Markus Linden last year.
Qua function would be Klöckner’s task not to upgrade such an outer medium – but to understand what damaging role it takes for democracy. Experiences in other countries show how powerful such portals can be to make sensible debates impossible and also how parties can benefit from it on the extreme right. From a President of the Bundestag you have to be able to expect to recognize that.
After the Ukraine summit: Please do not become euphoric
Who does not want this unspeakable, terrible war to finally end against Ukraine? After more than three years since Putin’s full invasion of the neighboring country, you could get the impression that something is happening-also because US President Trump is so vehemently pushing it. Last week he met the Kreml ruler in Alaska, and on Monday the Ukrainian President Selenskyj was a guest in the White House, together with some European heads of state and government and NATO general secretary.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz was also there. After the talks, he was satisfied that his expectations were “actually exceeded”, he said. A meeting between Selenskyj and Putin should soon be a meeting, both Merz and Trump promised. Admittedly, this is better than a scandal to which it came when Selenskyj had previously been in the White House. At that time, the Ukrainian President of Trump was sharply attacked in front of the cameras.
The Europeans now want to work out security guarantees for Ukraine together with the USA, according to German government circles. Nevertheless, I am more of the French president today. He said that he had the “greatest doubt” that Putin really wanted peace, he said after the meeting in the White House. Then in the end of course all the conversations do not help.
The well -known Ukrainian journalist Illia Ponomarenko even speaks of “senseless ritual dances” bilateral and trilateral meetings and deadlines. These would endlessly drag on, he predicts – While nothing is being done to actually force Russia to end the war. “Putin couldn’t be happier with that.”

In the end, well meant does not always lead to the goal: ours star-M all -off has shown that a narrow majority is to prohibit children and adolescents under the age of 16 access to social media. The proportion of prohibition supporters is therefore particularly high among parents and the elderly. I am skeptical, but I don’t have a child either and I’m not that old either.

There is undisputed on all possible platforms, be it Instagram, X, or Tikkok, also a lot of dirt, disinformation, about hate and stupidity. Studies repeatedly show that intensive use in young people can lead to anxiety symptoms, attention disorders or sleep problems.
Nevertheless, a ban that can usually be avoided cannot be the solution. Doesn’t it have to be about dealing with responsible use at school? Isn’t it also the task of the parents to strengthen their children in this regard?
Instead of a ban, the task of politics should then be more likely to be noticeably obliged to take on the operators of the platforms. So social media could become better places for everyone – also for those who are older than 16 years. Or do you see it differently? Please write to me.
