The right Merz at the right moment
Friedrich Merz proves that he can do a chancellor. His appearance in Washington was the next evidence of this. But now the man has to deliver domestically.
Friedrich Merz, who appears in Germany, is one who likes to stand at the forefront who is lectured and instructed. And that often misses the right tone.
The Friedrich Merz, who appeared in Washington on Monday evening, was one who took back who was more on the edge, who listened – and who, when he said something, turned his point: no peace negotiations without prior ceasefire.
Especially since it was by no means just his demand. The German Chancellor spoke on behalf of the other Europeans who were sitting at the table in the White House. Everything was carefully coordinated.

So there is a lot to do for Merz in the next few days, especially since what he will negotiate with them should have enormous domestic effects. The mere question of whether German soldiers should be stationed in Ukraine has the potential to blow up the weakened coalition.
Perhaps it would be good if the Friedrich Merz, who was seen in Washington, could be seen more often in Berlin. Then it could also work with governance in Germany.
