Söder gives tax increases for wealthy rejection

In the dispute over possible tax increases for wealthy people, CSU boss Markus Söder is now speaking. He clearly positions himself against the request of SPD boss Klingbeil.

Bavaria’s Prime Minister and CSU boss Markus Söder has criticized the coalition partner SPD for claims for tax increases for wealthy ends. “Tax increases are poison for the economy. We have discussed this in detail in the coalition negotiations and deliberately decided against it in the coalition agreement,” Söder wrote on Tuesday in online service X. “There is therefore nothing to ask for it – with the CSU there will definitely be no tax increases.”

Finance Minister and SPD leader Lars Klingbeil did not exclude tax increases for rich to close the financing gap in the household on Sunday in the ZDF “Summer Interview”. “No option is taken off the table,” he said. “I think it is something where people with high incomes, high fortune also have to ask what part we contribute to the fact that this country becomes more fairer,” he added. Klingbeil was encouraged by SPD general secretary Tim Klüssendorf.

Markus Söder wants to lower taxes

Söder, who had already rejected Klingbeil’s advance on Monday, now clearly explained: “We want to lower the income tax and ideally also the allowances for inheritance tax for particularly high -priced regions.” Instead of increasing taxes, saving must be saved – “of course in the civil allowance, the heating law and the migration costs,” wrote Söder.
