The disaster around the car toll is catching up with the responsible transport minister: Anklage is charged against Andreas Scheuer in Berlin. This is how the press comments on the decision.
Former Federal Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer (CSU) has to answer to court for a statement about the failed motorway toll. According to Wednesday, the Berlin General Prosecutor’s Office raised charges against the CSU politician for a suspected false statement in the toll investigation committee of the Bundestag. Scheuer told the “Bild” newspaper that he would “defend himself against this unfounded accusation (…) with all your strength and defend my innocence”.
Scheuer’s name is closely connected to the disaster at the car toll. The statements in question before the committee deals with the question of whether contracts had been signed with a toll company, although there was a risk that the project will be stopped by the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
This is how media comment on the allegations against Andreas Scheuer
“Märkische Oderzeitung”: “Hopefully this did not play a role in the decision of the Berlin public prosecutor, but you can already say: For the long -up people’s soul, it is good news that Andreas Scheuer is now being charged. The more and more human feeling that powerful and rich people are treated as if they were not contradicted by this charges. The real offense is not about the toll.
“The Rheinpfalz”: “Scheuer declares the indictment to be politically motivated and speaks of a summer hole maneuver. A former representative of this state, which discredited the judiciary in such a way, not only causes serious damage for himself, but also for the office, which he once clad. Whoever speaks in this way, shakes the foundation on which the rule of law is. The political disaster is not added. Through a second debacle: an unprecedented attack by an ex-government member on the judiciary.
Don’t you want to miss anything from the star?
Personally, competent and entertaining: Editor -in -chief Gregor Peter Schmitz sends you the most important content from the star-Credaction and arranges what Germany talks about.
“Nürnberger Zeitung”: “Why the judiciary takes so long to check the truth or untruth of a single sentence remains unknowable. There is a suspicion that not only purely factual reasons have determined the time of the indictment. In order not to be misunderstood: to lie to be a parliamentary committee of inquiry, it is deliberately told as a court. Public prosecutor’s office where it is possible works promptly. “
“Reutlinger General-Anzeiger”: “Dobrindt is considered the thinker of the foreigner toll, who enforced his successor Andreas Scheuer. As Interior Minister, Dobrindt also ignored a judgment on the border dismissal of asylum seekers-according to the motto ‘Legal? Illegal? Discal!’ The impression that this attitude leaves is fatal.
“Straubinger Tagblatt/Landshuter Zeitung”: “The taxpayer has remained at 243 million euros in damages to the operating company that claims to have offered the CSU man to sign the contracts after a judgment. However, this does not correspond to his memory, stated in front of the committee of inquiry, and the Berlin public prosecutor now wants to turn a rope from it. If the prosecutors enter thin ice.
“Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung”: “The (…) car toll will come. Only in 2020-early before the penultimate Bundestag election campaign. Andi Scheuer has a tremendous offset. Again to the disadvantage of taxpayers who have to put a quarter billion euros. As is so often the case (…) The political work-up of the mismanagement is unsatisfactory. As a result, a possible process against the former Minister of Transport and its State Secretary is not suitable.
