In September, the Bundestag is scheduled to take a second attempt to choose a judge. The SPD has a new candidate – but the vote with the Union is still pending.
After the election of constitutional judges in the Bundestag, the SPD has a new candidate proposal. “We have a name – and I will definitely not name it now,” said faction leader Matthias Miersch in the RTL/NTV “early start”. The proposal is now discussed with the Union, but also with the green and left – “because we need a two -thirds majority”. Miersch assumes that the judges will be elected for Karlsruhe in September.
The election in the Bundestag had burst before the summer break because Union faction leader Jens Spahn could no longer guarantee the approval of his parliamentary group for the personnel table coordinated in advance in the coalition. Parts of his parliamentary group rejected the SPD candidate Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, among other things, because of their attitude towards abortions. In the meantime, Brosius-Gersdorf has withdrawn her candidacy, the SPD must now make a new proposal.
