Sacrifices of domestic violence should be better protected for the perpetrator by an electronic ankle bracelet. A draft law of the Federal Ministry of Justice stipulates that family courts will in future oblige the perpetrators to carry such a device to determine the location. “Our state has to do more against domestic violence,” said Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD) on Saturday. “We in particular have to protect women better.”

If the perpetrator approaches, the victim is warned by a reception device and “can therefore bring himself to safety or seek support in good time,” says the paper that is available to the German Press Agency. Minister: Use ankle bonds across the board

“Every few minutes, a woman is attacked by her partner or ex-partner in Germany,” said Hubig. “A man kills his partner or ex-partner almost every other day. We must not get used to this brutal violence. We have to fight domestic violence.” Electronic ankle cuffs could save lives. “It is time for us to use this instrument nationwide in Germany in order to protect women from domestic violence in particular.”

The draft law states: “The introduction of electronic residence surveillance as a measure of the Violence Protection Act can help in individual cases to avoid killing offenses or serious bodily harm.” Not only the victim could be warned earlier, but perpetrators could also behave differently if they know that they are monitored. “Overall, this can contribute to the rescue of the life and life of the victims,” ​​says the draft.

The ankle bondage is to be used in so -called high -risk cases and limited in time. The judges should initially be able to order them for a maximum of half a year. An extension of three months is possible if the victim makes a corresponding application and, according to the judges, continues to exist, as the draft states.

Known more cases of domestic violence – record 2024

With the planned amendment to the Violence Protection Act, a nationwide regulation is to be created. More than 250,000 people became victims of domestic violence in 2023, as can be seen from the federal parent of the Federal Criminal Police (BKA). Experts assume a non -reported case. The majority of those affected by domestic violence are women, the vast majority of suspects are male.

Numbers for 2024 on domestic violence have not yet been officially presented. According to a report by the “Welt am Sonntag”, there were a record value with 265,942 affected people last year. The newspaper refers to figures from the Federal Criminal Police Office.

Hubig also wants to introduce family courts that the perpetrators will be able to oblige the perpetrators to do anti-violence training in the future. The punitive framework for violations of the Violence Protection Act should also be increased, a fine or at most two years in prison, such as a fine or up to three years of imprisonment.
