Russia has shot down a Ukrainian drone at the Kursk Akw. A fire was triggered that the system was down, it is said.
In the west of Russia, a nuclear power plant is said to have caught fire as a result of a shot Ukrainian drone. The “device” was “detonated” when it comes to the impact on the system, the Kursk nuclear power plant said on Sunday in the Telegram online service. A fire was triggered, but the fire brigade was deleted. The state Russian news agency TASS also reported on the incident. The Ukrainian side has not yet commented.
The nuclear power plant is located near the Russian-Ukrainian border west of the 440,000-inhabitant city of Kursk in the West Russian region of the same name.
No increased radiation values on the Kursk nuclear power plant
Due to the crash of the drone shot down by the Russian military, there were no victims, it said. The system was shut down. The radiation exposure “at the industrial location of the Kursk nuclear power plant and in the area” is “unchanged”. It corresponds to the “natural values”, the power plant assured.
The International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA has repeatedly warned of the risks near the nuclear facilities since the beginning of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine. The authority was particularly concerned about the security of the nuclear power plants in the Russian region of Kursk and the Ukrainian region of Saporischschja.
