The conflict of the use of the National guard by US President Donald Trump is heading. The Democrats accuse him of wanting to talk about a crisis.
The minority leader of the Democrats in the US House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, has discussed President Donald Trump the legal authority for any military operation in Chicago. Previously, it became known that the Pentagon started initial plans for a possible posting of troops from the National Guard.
“There is no basis and no authorization for Donald Trump to try to send national troops to the city of Chicago,” Jeffries told CNN on Sunday. He accused Trump of wanting to talk a crisis. The governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, had previously stated that there was no emergency that justifies such an assignment.
Trumps used National Guard in Washington
Trump had recently used the National Guard in Washington and justified this with violent crimes there. The Republican represents the capital as a wave of crime, although official data shows a decline in crime figures. As a result, the president announced that he will expand his approach to Chicago.
He also brought an assignment in the city of Baltimore, which was also ruled by Democrat. The mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, pointed out that the murder rate in the city last year fell by more than 30 percent and the number of shootings by almost 40 percent. Crime is also declining in Baltimore.
Federal Act could allow use under certain circumstances
In Chicago and Baltimore, Trump has far less power than in the Federal District Washington, where he exerts greater influence as President. However, as a legal basis, he could rely on a federal law that allows the President to use the national guard to ward off an invasion, to put down an uprising or to comply with compliance with the laws.
Trump had already referred to this Section 12406 at the beginning of the year when he sent National Gardists to Los Angeles against the will of the California governor Gavin Newsom.
