Ukraine War: Vance: Russia has made “considerable concessions”

According to US Vice President JD Vance, Russia has made “considerable concessions” for negotiations on the end of the war in Ukraine. “They were actually ready to be flexible for some of their core demands. They talked about what would be necessary to end the war,” said Vance in an interview by the broadcaster NBC. Russia agreed that “Ukraine will keep its territorial integrity after the war. You have recognized that you cannot install a puppet regime in Kiev.”

Russia began its war of attack against the neighboring country on February 24, 2022. Vance now said that he thinks the Russians “made considerable concessions for the first time in three and a half years of this conflict”.

“There will be no floor troops in Ukraine”

Vance confirmed that the United States would not send troops to enforce a peace agreement. “The president expressed himself very clearly. There will be no floor troops in Ukraine.” But the United States would continue to play an active role to ensure that the Ukrainians have the security guarantees and the trust they need to end the war from their side – and that the Russians had the feeling that they could end the war from their side.

However, the hopes for an early meeting of the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, according to statements from Moscow, have largely gone. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had stated that such a meeting must be well prepared and repeated known demands that are more reminiscent of conditions for a surrender of Ukraine than a real offer of peace.

So far there has been hardly any progress in the direct negotiations between Kiev and Moscow on the lower level.
