Report: National Guard in Washington is armed
The National Guard is increasingly present in the cityscape of Washington. So far she has not been wearing weapons – that is now changing.
According to a media report, the national guards used by US President Donald Trump in Washington are armed. From Sunday evening (local time), soldiers should wear firearms, as the TV broadcaster NBC News reported on a representative of the Ministry of Defense, familiar with the planning. They are entitled to use the weapons for self -defense. A DPA request for the National Guard initially remained unanswered.
Most recently, Trump had activated the national guard to contain the crime that is supposed to be out of control in the US capital, which is ruled by a democratic mayor. Trump had spoken of a “rat hole”. He also put the local police under federal inspection.
His procedure is violent – there have been protests. The statistics of the police do not provide evidence of an increase in crime. Critics speak of a show who organizes Trump. The soldiers can be seen in places where many tourists are on the road, but they are not a special hotspot for violence and crime.
Will Chicago be the next city?
Chicago is considered a potentially next city in which the Trump government could cause similar measures. The democratic mayor there rejects this.
