Kyiv brings several negotiating locations for discussions with Moscow. But there is still no real movement to a summit. Instead, Ukraine has to solve more and more crises on the front.
Ukraine is available for possible negotiations with Russia about an end to the fight. According to President Wolodymyr Selenskyj, talks with Turkey, the Gulf States and some European countries are to be held about such a meeting this week. These countries could organize such a summit with them, said Selenskyj in his evening video address. “From our side everything will be ready to end this war.” However, it is important to continue to put pressure on Moscow in order to drive out the delay tactic to the Kremlin. It is particularly important to the USA.
There have already been talks in Istanbul
Russia and Ukraine had held direct negotiations for the first time in 2022 this year. During the talks in Istanbul, some humanitarian questions such as the exchange of prisoners and fallen were clarified. However, one is far from a peace solution.
The double summit recently held by US President Donald Trump – first with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin in Alaska and then with Selenskyj and the European allies in Washington – also did not make a breakthrough. Moscow demands from Kiev to continue to forego the goal of NATO membership and to hand over larger areas for peace. Ukraine rejects this with reference to its own constitution.
No real progress
Both sides demonstrate mainly on dialogue – to pull Trump on her side. The US specialist Steve Witkoff told Fox News that he would meet the Ukrainian side in New York this week. With the Russian side there are also “every day” talks. Trump is “disappointed” in some ways from both Russia and Ukraine, said Witkoff.
When asked whether Putin may only be single -off for his purposes, Wiktoff said that he believes that the Kremlin chief had honestly tried to talks – and in Alaska he signaled his willingness to end the war.
Trump warns of “Economic War”
Trump warned of an “economic war”. He didn’t want that, he said. It would be bad for Russia. The United States recently imposed sanctions against India due to oil transactions with Russia. At the same time, Trump accused Selenskyj not to be “innocent” either. “You have to bring them together,” said the Republican on both sides. He said about the war: “I want it to stop.”
The Kremlin brakes direct negotiations between Putin and Selenskyj on the grounds that these talks would have to be prepared with specific agreements beforehand. There are also differences in the negotiation locations now brought into play by Selenskyj. The Russian leadership has already made it clear that they do not accept any discussions in Europe because these states are not neutral in the conflict.
EU foreign commissioner Kallas for new sanctions against Russia
The latest statements by EU foreign officers Kaja Kallas should not defuse the Russian reservations. The EU chief diplomat called new sanctions against Russia and also their trading partners to force Moscow to the negotiating table. “In any case, I would very much welcome it if the US administration imposed further tough sanctions against Moscow as soon as possible, even those that would meet the supporters of Russia,” she said in an interview with the “Welt”.
The Ukraine has to get “credible and robust” security guarantees in a peace, said the politician from Estonia. She spoke out for well -equipped western peace troops in Ukraine, if not directly on the front. Moscow repeatedly emphasizes that there will be no western troops in Ukraine in a peace solution.
Ukraine has to solve local crises on the front
Russia sees itself further in the front on the front. For the first time, Ukrainian military analysts confirmed the penetration of Russian troops into the Dnipropetrovsk industrial region, which is located west of the competitive Donetsk region. The experts at the Saepstate Supplementary Service marked the towns of Saporiske and Novoheorhijiwka in the region as Russian.
“The armed forces of Ukraine have stopped the advancement of the Russian conquerors and continue to control the village of Saporiske,” said the “Dnipro” army group responsible for the front section on Telegram. The fights for the neighboring hamlet of Nowohijiwka would continue. Reports about a line -up are wrong, it is said.
War veterans and active soldiers, on the other hand, criticize more and more that commanders write beautiful management reports and that the army leadership does not always know the real situation.
Problems in Kupjansk, counterattacks at Pokrowsk
Another crisis rails in the Charkiw area in the northeastern tucrainian area. According to independent military observers, the Russian troops on the west side of the Oskil River have further passed there and are approaching the strategically important junction Kupjansk. However, the pace of the Russian troops is low.
A quick front breakthrough on which the Kreml guide may be on is therefore not in sight. In addition, the Ukrainian military has apparently stopped a Russian push at Pokrowsk and has passed counterattacks there.
Attacks on fuel supply
Russia also creates the ongoing drone attacks in their own area. During the night in the city of Rostow on the Don 15 residents of an apartment building had to be evacuated after drone debris killed the roof and triggered a fire.
However, the systematic attacks against the oil industry are more problematic. Within a few days, Ukrainian drones did not hit ten refineries in Russia. According to media reports, around 17 percent of the oil processing capacities have now failed. This leads to problems with fuel supply.
