Russia has hit the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with new air raids. President Selenskyj calls for new sanctions, while Kiev’s representatives negotiate in the USA.
According to official information, at least eight people have been killed in new massive Russian air strikes with rockets and drones on Ukraine. Among the dead is also a child, wrote the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj on the platform X. He expressed his condolences to the relatives. There could still be people under the ruins of a house hit, the President continued. Dozens of people were injured.
Authorities had previously spoken of four dead and more than twenty injuries in the early morning. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, many injuries came to the hospital.
The Russian drone and rocket strokes are Moscow’s answer to the ceasefire that has been required for weeks and months and the views of real diplomacy, criticized Selenskyj. Instead of negotiations, Russia chose attacks. “Russia chooses killing instead of ending the war,” he said.
Selenskyj demands pressure on Russia from China
Russia takes advantage of the fact that part of the world is blind if children were killed, the president said. With a view of the China journey by Kremlinir Putin, which was multi-day China on Sunday, Selenskyj Beijing asked for a reaction to the Russian attacks. China had repeatedly called up not to expand the war and hire the fighting. He also asked Hungary and other countries to break their silence.
It is time for new sanctions against Russia that let all deadlines pass and ruined dozens of diplomatic initiatives, said Selenskyj. Moscow must be held responsible for every blow, he demanded.
“Tonight Kiev is massively attacked by the Russian terrorist state,” Kiev wrote military governor Tymur Tkatschenko on Telegram. Heavy devastation in a partly collapsed house and burned -out cars were seen on videos and photos published by the authorities. There were reports on numerous damage and several fires.
Ukraine sends negotiators to the USA
Selenskyj, however, sent his chief negotiators to talks about security guarantees for his country attacked by Russia to the United States. Presidential office chief Andrij Jermak and ex-defense minister Rustem Umjerow are to speak to representatives of the government of US President Donald Trump on Friday in New York, as he announced in Kiev. On the part of the Americans, Trump’s negotiator Steve Witkoff confirmed the meeting.
“Anyone who works on the security guarantees – on the military, political and economic components of the security guarantees – are included,” said Selenskyj in an evening video address. “The Russians have to see how serious the world is and how bad the consequences for Russia will be when the war continues.”
Talks about security guarantees
The security guarantees are about protecting Ukraine from the end of the war from a rebuilding of Russian aggression. The United States is planning to participate, but the main military burden is said to be among the Europeans. Russia has so far strictly rejected troops from NATO countries in Ukraine.
According to Selenskyjs, possible places for a meeting with Kremlin chief Putin are also to be explored. The Ukrainian representatives were visited in the Gulf state of Qatar on Tuesday, on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia. Talks in Switzerland are planned for Thursday. Putin, however, only wants to speak to a representative of Ukraine if there is a fully negotiated solution for an end to the war.
Foreign Minister WadePhul: New sanctions against Moscow
The German Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul also sees Moscow’s alleged willingness to negotiate skeptical. “I have the greatest doubts that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine occur in the foreseeable future,” he told the news magazine “Focus”. Putin does not move at all despite Trump’s efforts. “I strongly advise to maintain the pressure on Russia. It is more likely that there will be new sanctions against Russia in the near future when Putin is steering into a ceasefire in negotiations,” said WadePhul.
Russia has been waging a war against Ukraine for more than three and a half years. In the evening and at night there were new attacks from the air with combat drones and rockets – not just in Kiev. Explosions were also reported from the cities of Sumy in the north as well as Dnipro and Saporischschja in the south.
According to the Ukrainian information, residents were ordered to shelter almost all parts of the country, also far from the front line. According to this, the attackers sent several waves from combat drones and also fired hyper -sheled missiles and marching missiles. Several fighter jets from the Russian Air Force are in action.
Air alarm also in Russia
At the same time, there was temporarily air alarm in Russia in the Lipezz area due to an approaching Ukrainian drones, as authorities said. The Russian military reported the shooting of more than 100 Ukrainian drones over the areas of Rostow, Belgorod, Smolensk and over the Black Sea Peninsula. Several airports had to limit the operation to be on the safe side.
In its defensive fight against the Russian invasion, Ukraine repeatedly leads strikes against the oil and gas industry in Russia. Through drone hits on Russian refineries, Russia has lost 17 percent of the capacity of oil processing according to media reports. There is a lack of fuel in many regions. The gasoline prices have increased massively.
