Again, Russia starts devastating air strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. UN Secretary General Guterres is horrified.
UN General Secretary António Guterres has sharply sentenced the recent rocket and drone attacks to the Ukrainian capital Kiev. “Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable and must be ended immediately,” wrote Guterres on the platform X. He again calls a complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire, “which leads to a fair, comprehensive and sustainable peace in Ukraine”. Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj thanked the UN Secretary General’s support.
In the night of Thursday, at least 18 people in Kiev were killed in the heaviest Russian air raids with rockets and drones on Ukraine since the end of July, including four children. According to the authorities, there were around 50 injuries. The EU representation and the British Cultural Institute in Kyiv were also damaged.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the attacks had taken arms and Ukrainian air force bases. All goals were hit, it said.
Selenskyj: “It was one of the greatest attacks in Russia”
Selenskyj wrote on platform X, he was grateful for Guterres’ “important words of compassion and solidarity with the Ukrainian families. It was one of the greatest attacks in Russia.” Helpers are still in use.
Guterres and he had discussed the steps that would have to be taken to end people killing. “Ukraine is ready for a meeting at management level. Only in this format can all important questions be addressed,” wrote Selenskyj. Russia, on the other hand, only represents new conditions and continues its aggression.
