Development aids abroad: US government wants to delete billions of foreign aids

US President Donald Trump plans to delete foreign aids in a controversial maneuver. A total of $ 4.9 billion (around 4.2 billion euros), which were intended for programs by the Foreign Ministry, the US Development Authority USAI and and for international aid programs. This emerges from a letter from the White House to the Republican Chairman of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, which the household authority (Office of Management and Budget) shared on X.

According to the household authority, Trump uses a household-political maneuver that the US Daleshof describes as illegal. This always exists when a US president only asks the congress shortly before the end of the financial year to delete funds so that they expire before they can be used for new purposes.

The Parliament has a regular 45 days in order to react to medium cuts to the President’s request, the Court of Auditors explains. “However, if there is not enough time to check this application or use the funds before it expires, the President avoids control of the congress on government expenditure.” The financial year runs until the end of September.

It is not new that the US government is shortening development allowance. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio announced the official end of foreign aid from the US Development Authority USA at the beginning of last month. The reason: Development goals were rarely achieved. Aid programs for abroad that agreed with the policy of the US government would be managed by the Foreign Ministry in the future.

USAID clearing could result in more than 14 million deaths

Rubio had previously made it clear that the majority of the projects once managed by the USA are eliminated. The development authority was one of the largest organizations of its kind worldwide and organized numerous auxiliary measures around the world-from AIDS aid to reconstruction in war regions.

A current study comes to the conclusion that the clearing at USAID could result in more than 14 million additional deaths over the next five years. Of these, around five million children under the age of five could be, as can be seen from the examination published in the specialist magazine “The Lancet”.
