Gaza War: Defense Minister: Hamas spokesman is “switched off”

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz has declared dead spokesman for the Hamas military arm. Israel “switched off” the man, known under the combat name Abu Obeida, in Gaza, wrote Katz on the platform X about a picture of the speaker that was crossed out with a red X. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously confirmed the attack on Abu Obeida. The result of the attack is still unclear, he said. “I hope he is no longer among us.”

Netanyahu continued: “But I realize that there is no one who communicates this question about Hamas. So the hours and days will surely say what to say.” A little later, the Israeli army confirmed that Abu Obeida had been killed in the attack.

Hamas circles: Psychological Warge of Israel

However, there was no official confirmation of his death from Islamist Hamas. Hamas circles said that rumors about the spokesman’s death were part of Israel’s psychological warfare. The public was asked not to spread these rumors.

The civil protection controlled by Hamas spoke on Saturday of at least seven deaths in an attack in the west of the city of Gaza. A residential building in the Rimal district that was considered a wealthy area before the war was attacked.

Abu Obeida was considered one of the best -known representatives of the terrorist organization and was always only masked in appearances and video messages.

Since the beginning of the Gaza War almost two years ago, Israel has already killed numerous high-ranking Hamas leaders and commanders, including Jihia al-Sinwar, Ismail Hanija and Mohammed Deif.

According to the health authority controlled by the Hamas, almost 63,500 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the Gaza War and another around 160,000 were injured. The information does not distinguish between civilians and fighters of the terrorist organizations and cannot be checked independently, but are said to be credible.

The trigger of the Gaza War was the attack by Hamas and other Islamist groups on Israel on October 7, 2023. In the unprecedented massacre, the terrorists killed around 1,200 people and more than 250 more than hostage in the Gaza Strip.
