Vladimir Putin has launched an invasion of Ukraine. On Thursday night he turned to his nation again – and told her lies. This time he played Stalin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an attack “on Ukraine’s military infrastructure” on Thursday morning. “I have decided to conduct a special military operation,” he announced. The Kremlin chief cited an abstruse propagandistic lie as justification, which he continued in the spirit of his speech last Monday: “The aim is to protect people who have been subjected to harassment and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years,” lied he in a speech on Thursday night.
“And for this we will strive for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine and bring to justice those who have committed numerous bloody crimes against civilians, including citizens of the Russian Federation,” Putin announced, as if he were Stalin himself, leading the storm of the Reds Army on Nazi Germany commands.
Denazification was once decided by the anti-Hitler coalition at the Yalta Conference in 1945. At the Potsdam Conference, it was declared one of the four main goals of Allied occupation policy. And now Putin is setting himself that goal in the war against Ukraine. At war against a country that was one of the main theaters of World War II.
Vladimir Putin stokes fear of retaliation
Now, Putin warned Crimea residents of retaliation from “Ukrainian nationalists” who “would not forgive them for their election and reunification with Russia.” “In order to achieve their own goals, the leading NATO countries support extreme nationalists and neo-Nazis, who for their part will never forgive the people of Crimea and Sevastopol for their free choice of reunification with Russia,” the Kremlin chief said.

But no matter how you twist and turn it, and even if Hitler were really still in power in Kiev: the Crimean residents never had a choice. All Western observers and independent human rights organizations are certain that the 2014 referendum was falsified.
While allowing himself to start a war, he warns others not to take the war to Russia. “No one should doubt that a direct attack on our country will lead to defeat and dire consequences for any potential attacker,” he promised the Russians.
Shortly after Putin’s announced “military operation” in Ukraine, explosions were heard in the capital Kiev and in other Ukrainian cities.
More on that shortly.
