Higher regulatory funds and more interim questions: The coalition wants to make debates in the Bundestag more interesting and fair.

The Union and SPD want to make the debates in the Bundestag more alive – and at the same time punish violations of regular misconceptions. According to information from the German Press Agency, the coalition factions agreed to a reform of the decades-old rules of procedure of the parliament. Among other things, intermediate questions should be allowed in so -called current hours. Ordinary funds should be doubled. If you do not take part in a Bundestag meeting, you should get more money withdrawn. In addition, vice presidents, vice presidents and committee chairwoman will be able to be elected in the future.

“As a parliament, we have a role model function. Our cooperation must therefore be shaped by respect and dignity,” said the parliamentary managing director of the Union faction, Hendrik Hoppenstedt. His counterpart from the SPD, Johannes Fechner, emphasized: “We better secure the Bundestag against constitutional enemies, by sharper sanctions against mobbing and regulated procedures, for example in the election of important offices. By clear regulations in our rules of procedure, we prevent our parliamentary processes for party political show.”

The Union and the SPD want to bring their suggestions to parliament together, but also promote approval from the other political groups. A first debate about this is already planned for the next week of session, a decision in autumn.
