Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Trump: Wouldn’t have had an invasion under my administration

Former US President Donald Trump also reacts to Russia’s Ukraine attack. He assumes that Putin originally didn’t want a war at all – and then saw “Biden’s weakness”.

Former US President Donald Trump is convinced that Russia would not have attacked Ukraine with him as head of state in the White House.

There are good reasons why this has not happened in the past four years, Trump said in a telephone interview with Fox News on Wednesday evening (local time). Russian President Vladimir Putin saw the “weakness” of his successor Joe Biden’s US government and took advantage of it, Trump said.

Trump got along “fantastic” with Putin

Trump also said he assumes that Putin originally did not want a war. “The way it started, I really don’t think he wanted to do that at first. I think he wanted to do something and negotiate. Then it got worse and worse,” he said. Then he saw the “weakness” shown by the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan and acted. Trump added that as president he got along “fantastic” with Putin – even though he took action against the German-Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

During his tenure, critics have always accused Trump of soft-talking about Putin.
