After taking it: Israel’s army chief warns of military administration in Gaza

In the past, Israel’s army chief Eyal Zamir has expressed criticism of the Gaza plans of the Netanyahu government-now he is said to have become clear again.

According to a media report, Israel’s chief of staff Ejal Zamir has warned that taking the city of Gaza will lead to an Israeli military administration. The military chief said this at a session of the security cabinet on Monday night, the Israeli news portal “Ynet” reported. Zamir said: “You head for a military administration, your plan leads us there. Understands the meaning.” The reason is that the political leadership does not prepare an alternative for the time after the war.

There was already a military administration before the peace process

After conquering the Gaza Strip during the 1967 Six Day War, Israel had put the coastal area under military administration. Egypt had previously checked the area. As part of the Israeli-Palestinian peace treaties, Israel then handed civil administration to the Palestinian Authority a good three decades ago, but continued to check the limits. With the Israeli deduction from the 2005 Gaza strip, the military presence ended in the area, while Israel continued to control the borders. In 2007, Islamist Hamas took power in the coastal area.

A new military administration of the area would be a step back – and hopes for a two -state solution to give another dampers.

No vote on proposal about gaza custody rest

According to “Ynet”, Zamir also spoke out for a deal for the release of further hostages in the violence of the terrorist organization Hamas. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had spoken out against a vote on the topic, and said that it is “not on the agenda”.

The Islamist Hamas had said in mid-August that it agreed to a new intermediary proposal for a ceasefire. So far, Israel has not officially answered this.

There are still 48 hostages in the Gaza Strip, 20 of which are still alive according to Israeli information. According to media reports, Zamir had also warned that the capture of the city of Gaza, which was adopted by the security cabinet, endangered her life.
