Many Americans accuse the government of holding details back in the Epstein case. Now a committee of the US House of Representatives has released files.
A committee of the US representative house led by the Republicans published more than 33,000 pages on documents in the case of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on Tuesday (local time). Among other things, the files contain videos of police hearing with alleged victims from 2005 and 2006 as well as sound recordings from the investigation in Florida. However, most of the published documents had already become known. With the publication, the leadership of the Republicans apparently wanted to accuse a cross -party initiative.
Republican MP Thomas Massie and his democratic colleague Ro Khanna call for the Ministry of Justice to release all Epstein documents that are not classified as a secret. The chairman of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, described this advance as superfluous. He also criticized that the application did not contain sufficient protection for the identity of the victims. However, Massie announced that despite the publication, he announced his project. He also wants to hold a press conference together with Epstein victims on Wednesday.
Epstein case burdened US President Trump politically
The New York district judge Richard Berman had banned the publication of certain files, which was excited by US President Donald Trump. He justified his decision that the US government has 100,000 pages of documents for the case. It was more obvious to make them accessible than applying for the referral of individual testimony in the court. Justice Minister Pam Bondi had applied for the release of documents in the Epstein case in front of the Grand Jury-a jury committee-in July. She did this on the order of President Trump, who, after massive public pressure from his own ranks, seemed to be a turnaround in dealing with the case.
The Epstein case is politically burdened by US President Donald Trump. According to a Reuters/Ipsos survey in July, the majority of the Americans and the Trump supporter are convinced that the government is holding details back. Epstein was a wealthy financier and sex offender who was charged with minors for sex trade when he presumably committed suicide in 2019. He had not known himself guilty and the case was discontinued after his death. Trump knew Epstein privately in the 1990s and early 2000s.
