It remains with the austerity course in development aid. But the housekeepers in the Bundestag set new priorities.
There should be more money from the federal government for the world nutrition program and for the fight against polio. As the Union and SPD announced, the Bundestag’s budget committee in the budget of Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan (SPD) has changed a total of 70 million euros – the UN World Food program is to receive 22 million more than planned by the federal government. There should be 10 million more for combating and extermination of paralysis.
Overall, however, the austerity course for the Ministry of Development remains: According to the SPD, the budget continues to comprise the planned around 10.3 billion euros for 2025 – that is around 940 million euros less than in the previous year. The Bundestag wants to vote on the budget for the current year in the middle of the month.
Union’s housekeeper Christian Haase said that in development cooperation you are now concentrating on the essentials. However, this does not mean that you close your eyes to the worries in the world. The SPD, on the other hand, continues to penetrate better equipment for the development budget. “However, the coalition agreement obliges us to save,” said the responsible budget politician Felix Döring.
