26 countries are ready to send troops to securing peace to Ukraine. President Selenskyj has further ideas. Meanwhile, the US government is encountering European oil transactions with Russia.
According to President Wolodymyr Selenskyj, a strong Ukrainian army must be the central element of future security guarantees for his country. “We now secure your skills – financing, weapons, production – in a year, in five years, in ten years,” he wrote after consultations with western supporters of Ukraine on the X.
Previously, the so -called coalition of the willing from more than 30 countries about forms of support for Ukraine had spoken to protect the country from a new aggression of the neighbor after a possible ceasefire or peace. Some participants such as Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) were switched on by video for the consultations in Paris. Then there was a group call with US President Donald Trump.
It is questionable how an end to the Russian war of aggression that has been going on for more than three and a half years. Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, who had ordered the raid on the neighboring country violating international law, has so far not been able to recognize any willingness to engage in substantial concessions.
Selenskyj wrote on X, the key to peace is to withdraw Russia’s war machinery money and resources. In addition, the Ukraine had submitted a new proposal to the USA for the Ukrainian airspace for testing. He did not give details.
Trump has oil transactions Europeans
According to media reports, Trump is said to have kept the Europeans on the joint phone call to continue to obtain oil from there despite their resistance to Russia and thus finance Putin’s warfare. He had asked to end oil transactions and also put more pressure on China, reported the US news portal “Axios” and the TV station CNN, citing sources in the White House. The “picture” spoke of a “heated phone call” to the Europeans.
In a press conference after the consultations in Paris, France’s President Emmanuel Macron said that Trump and the US government were rightly outraged that two EU member states continued to buy Russian oil. It is about Hungary and Slovakia, which are also on the brakes in sanctions against Russia. Macron said it was good that the United States and Europe wanted to coordinate its sanctions against Russia even more closely in the future to put an end to these practices.
According to EU, the oil transactions of European countries with Russia have decreased sharply in recent years. However, they did not come to a standstill. The Russian oil pipeline druschba continues to transport oil towards Hungary and Slovakia.
Selenskyj strives to join Ukraine
As part of the discussion about security guarantees for his country, Selenskyj penetrated Ukraine’s accession to the EU. “Among the security guarantees we see, membership in the European Union is a mandatory economic, political and geopolitical security guarantee,” he said at the joint press conference with Macron. A military assistant is also included in the EU contracts.
Selenskyj has long been calling for a direct meeting with Putin and accuses Moscow of delay tactics to continue the war. “If you want no meeting, then you invite me to Moscow,” said Selenskyj to the address of the Kremlin chief. But it is at least “not bad” that Russia even talked about a possible meeting.
Putin said on Wednesday at a press conference that Selenskyj could come to Moscow if there was a prospect of a good result. The Ukrainian, in turn, said that he had found out about this proposal from the “American partners”.
26 countries want to provide troops
Macron and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that 26 western countries were willing to send troops to secure ceasefire or peace between Russia and Ukraine. The countries have agreed to use ground troops, forces in the air or at sea, said von der Leyen. However, it did not explain which countries want to participate specifically and with how many soldiers.
Germany does not yet want to commit to a participation, as Chancellor Merz said. First of all, the focus would have to focus on financing, armament and training of the Ukrainian armed forces.
According to information from military circles, a troop presence of European NATO countries in Ukraine would be conceivable, especially as a large-scale training. Accordingly, it is not about a peace force in the classic sense.
The main burden of an assignment would bear the European NATO members. The Europeans had repeatedly made it clear that it would not be possible without reinsurance through the United States. There were no concrete commitments from Washington.
Moscow remains with old demands
Russia is ready to continue to wage war if there is no agreement that is acceptable to Moscow, Putin said on Wednesday. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the western considerations for security guarantees, including the sending of troops from NATO countries to Ukraine. “Russia will not discuss a deeply unacceptable and every security undergravating foreign intervention in Ukraine,” said Ministry spokeswoman Maria Sacharova.
Meanwhile, the fights in Ukraine continue. At night, too, air alarm was triggered in many regions. According to the Aviation Authority Rosawiazija, there were temporary restrictions at Russian airports in Kaluga, Wolgograd and Tambow.
